The Chinese manufacturer LeEco, best known for its TVs and smartphones, has announced two ‘smart’ bicycles in the US. It concerns a mountain bike and a road bike, both of which are equipped with a 4 “touch screen that runs on Android 6.0.

LeEco calls the self-developed operating system BikeOS. It runs on a system with a Snapdragon 410-soc. The screen uses a 6000mAh battery and is able to guide the user with maps from Here Maps. In addition, the system allows users to listen to music and communicate with other drivers via a walkie-talkie function. The bikes are able to keep track of journeys, which can then be shared via an associated app.

The mountain bike and the other model, which weigh 12.2 and 8.4 kg respectively with a carbon frame, are equipped with various sensors, including GPS, Glonass, compass, accelerometer, barometer and a light meter. In addition, heart rate and force sensors from third parties can be connected. In addition, the bicycles have an alarm function, whereby the owner is notified when the alarm goes off and he can follow his bicycle via GPS.

LeEco says the bikes will be available in the US in the second quarter of this year. The company has not yet announced a price and is not reporting any plans to market the bikes in Europe as well.
