KLM passengers traveling in a Boeing 747-400 of the airline can use a wireless entertainment system as of this week. This allows travelers to stream a selection of the in-flight entertainment offerings to their own mobile devices.

KLM says in a press release that passengers can choose from more than two hundred films and series via the wireless entertainment system. Via a local server on board the device, the traveler can stream content to a laptop, smartphone or tablet for free. The new entertainment system in KLM’s Boeing 747-400s was installed by the company AirFi.

KLM will replace its Boeing 747s in the coming years with more fuel-efficient, twin-engine aircraft, but decided to supplement the current built-in system with the wireless platform. It is only available on the Boeing 747. KLM is investing in Wi-Fi on the other long-haul flights. Over time, those aircraft will also make it possible to wirelessly stream an entertainment offer to mobile devices.
