Intel will release its Core i9-9900KS processor with eight cores at 5GHz on Friday. In the United States, the CPU costs $513; a few bucks more than the regular i9-9900K. According to Intel, the processor is “available for a limited time”.

Intel calls the i9-9900KS a Special Edition. It is not clear how many copies will come out and until when they will be on sale. In the US, the CPU has a price tag of $513, while the regular i9-9900k costs between $483 and $499 according to Intel’s price list. The i9-9900KF without igpu recently got a price reduction to $ 475. According to Intel, the 9900KS will be available worldwide; At the time of writing, the CPU is not yet available in webshops in the Benelux.

The i9-9900KS is a variant of the existing i9-9900K processors, with higher clock speeds. Intel guarantees a boost speed of 5GHz on all cores and does so by selecting the best chips. That speed can also be achieved with the regular i9-9900K, but overclocking has to be done to reach 5GHz on all cores.

Intel’s reviews of the Core i9-9900KS can be put online from Friday. Some sites already have a CPU in their hands and have now put a review online. For example, Tom’s Hardware published benchmarks a few weeks ago. The site concluded that the chip performs just as well on stock settings as an overclocked Core i9-9900K, but with lower power consumption. The Czech website pctuning.cz also put a review online on Monday.
