Chinese hardware maker Huawei has delivered more than ten million copies of a high-end phone for the first time. The P9 and variant P9 Plus have reached that milestone eight months after its release this spring.

Predecessors P8, P7 and P6 never reached ten million, but with the P9 series that has now succeeded, says Huawei. The manufacturer adds up the deliveries of the P9 and those of the Plus variant. The P9 Plus has a slightly larger screen and case, although many of the other features match the regular P9.

In the first six weeks, Huawei delivered 2.6 million copies of the P9 devices. The manufacturer tries to distinguish its high-end phone mainly through the collaboration with camera brand Leica. The P9 has a dual camera, one with a regular Bayer sensor and the other with a monochrome sensor.

Huawei delivered more than 33 million smartphones in the third quarter. This makes it the worldwide number three in the smartphone market, after Apple and Samsung. In 2018, the Chinese manufacturer wants to surpass Apple and become number two.
