Huawei has announced its first smart glasses with HarmonyOS. The Eyewear glasses can be connected to a maximum of two devices and have speakers in the arms to, for example, pass on music and notifications to the user.

The speakers of the Eyewear glasses are 128mm² in size and are open. As a result, others can also hear what the user is listening to, although Huawei says that “the sound level is automatically lowered in different environments”. The Eyewear glasses also have a microphone to make phone calls and communicate with Huawei’s voice assistant.

HarmonyOS is getting an audio manager widget for the smart glasses, allowing users to manually manage which devices the glasses should connect to and which devices the audio should come from. This switching can also happen automatically, for example if a phone call comes in on a connected smartphone while the user is watching a movie on a PC.

There are sensors in the temples near the user’s temple. The user can squeeze the temples to operate the Eyewear glasses. This allows, among other things, to adjust the volume, or to give users access to music and video streaming services. The glasses also contain a sensor that measures the posture of the user. If the user bends forward for too long, he or she will receive a signal to sit up again. This is how back and neck damage should be prevented.

The battery lasts up to 4.5 hours when making a call, 6 hours when listening to audio, or 16 hours without listening to anything. Charging is done via a magnetically connected charger. The Eyewear glasses are IPX4 certified and come in different frames. These frames are also interchangeable, so that a user can, for example, have both a sunglasses variant and regular smart glasses, without having to buy two Eyewear glasses. The glasses are for sale from converted 235.35 euros and are immediately available in China. Huawei has not yet announced anything about a release outside of China.
