Hearthstone director quits after nine months and leaves Blizzard

August Dean Ayala, since February the game director of Blizzard’s online card game Hearthstone, is leaving the game developer. Ayala was employed by the company for eleven years. A reason for the departure is not given.

Ayala’s last day was last Friday. On Twitter he writes Hearthstone said it was an “incredible game” and said it was an honor to have played a part in the making of the game. “Thank you to all the players and a special thank you to my fellow game makers. I’m proud of everything we’ve created together.”

The former game director does not specify why he is leaving Blizzard. He does write unemployed for a few weeks to be, implying that he has found other work.

According to his LinkedIn page was Ayala director of the online card game since February, where he was responsible for the quality of the game. He was directly in charge of 38 game makers, spread over five different teams. Before that, he was lead designer since the end of 2016. He joined Blizzard in June 2011 as a quality assurance analyst.
