Luca Todesco, also known by the online name qwertyoruiop, claims that he has developed a working jailbreak for the iPhone 7. It would be the first jailbreak that runs on the final version of iOS 10.0.1. The jailbreak tool is not yet available to others.

Todesco, who has already jailbroken previous versions of iOS, via Twitter announced that he was able to jailbreak his iPhone 7 within a day. He showed a photo and video of an iPhone 7 running Cydia, a popular alternative download store for jailbroken iOS devices. The iPhone 7 has now been on the market for a week, and the final version of iOS 10 has been publicly available for three days longer.

The 19-year-old hacker has told Motherboard that he will keep the details about his jailbreak to himself until Apple releases a patch. This would give him the chance to find more bugs in the meantime and work out the current jailbreak better. Todesco has also told Motherboard that he plans to make his jailbreak available through Safari. Todesco already experimented with this with its jailbreaks of iOS 9.3.2, before Apple closed this route. The browser method became popular with the JailbreakMe hack that became available for iOS 4.

Apple started a rewards program for reporting bugs in August. Todesco could get tens of thousands of dollars for reporting the exploit, but Motherboard has not yet decided whether he will do so.

The jailbreak group Pangu does not yet have information about its own jailbreak of iOS 10. Pangu has made jailbreaks of older versions of iOS available in the past and already had a working jailbreak for a beta of iOS 10, but the group has the final version can’t crack yet.
