GoPro comes with cheap entry-level ‘Hero’
GoPro is reportedly coming with a new model of action camera that will simply be called the ‘Hero’. The small camera will have fewer features than the current models, but that should also make the price considerably lower.
Images and some specifications of the new GoPro have been published by the website PetaPixel, which also previously released information about new GoPros. Unlike the more expensive models, the GoPro Hero will not have WiFi or Bluetooth and it will not have a screen, as other models in the line-up do. Files are written to a micro SD card and it is charged via a mini USB port.
The Hero can record video in 1080p at 30fps or in 720p at 60fps. A feature called ‘Quikcapture’ allows users to launch the camera and start recording with a single button. In addition, there is also a photo burst mode that can take 5-megapixel pictures at five frames per second and via the Time Lapse feature, a photo can be taken automatically every half second.
The camera is protected by a transparent, waterproof housing, which, unlike other models, is attached to the camera itself. As a result, the Hero is not compatible with some of the GoPro accessories, such as the optional touchscreen.
The Hero is expected to be announced on October 8, the same day HTC is also expected to announce an action camera. According to a Russian YouTube review of the Hero, the small camera will cost less than $200.
