Google releases screenshots and developer documentation Android Auto

Google has posted screenshots online of Android Auto, the variant of its mobile operating system that it makes as software for in-car systems. Developers can customize the interface of apps to a limited extent, says the search giant.

Google has created a template in which developers can customize the background image and icons of buttons, but the size and placement of interface elements remains the same. In addition, all apps have a day and night mode, with the software automatically switching to the dark night mode when it gets night.

Developers don’t have to create separate Android Auto apps either; apps run on Auto through adjustments to the existing app, Google writes in the documentation for developers. Developers only need to add resources such as icons and images and actions such as bookmark functionality.

Because the car software is linked to an Android phone, the software can read from users which apps can run on Android Auto. Testing apps does not require a car: you can do this on all Android devices with sufficient screen size and resolution, such as a Nexus 7.
