Google has made the Clear Calling feature available to owners of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro that are on Android 13 QPR1 beta 3. This allows background noise to be removed from a telephone conversation partner.

Google announced the feature along with the Pixel 7 series, but the feature wasn’t ready to be included right at launch. Now he appears on the devices in this beta. Users who are register online with Google for these betas, they get sent to their device over-the-air. Exiting the beta program is subject to a wipe, unless no beta is on the agenda at that time, but a ‘normal’, stable quarterly platform release.

Clear Calling does not work with VoIP telephone calls, but only ‘normal’ calls. The functionality also depends on the existing Wi-Fi and mobile network connection. Clear Calling should eventually also come to the Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a. Such noise suppression technology is increasingly found in communications software, but often it comes down to the ability to suppress noise from the user and not the person on the other end of the line.
