Google gives Google+ app ‘automatic stories’ and new interface
Google has provided its app for Google+ with a major update. The software has a new interface and functionality to automatically build ‘stories’ based on uploaded content. Google has made the new app available only for Android.
Information about the new functionality of Google+ for Android was put online by Google employee Dave Besbris. In addition to innovations to the interface, there are several new functions present in the app. The main novelty seems to be the so-called Auto Awesome Stories; this makes it possible to build stories automatically, where the software uses photos, videos and places that the user has visited. Nokia previously released something similar with the Storyteller app.
It is also possible in the new app to build animated GIFs and large photo libraries are supported. According to Besbris, this is for users who own thousands of photos. Furthermore, the number of views is shown on photos and, according to Google, it is easier to share content on the social networking site.
The new features for Google+ will be immediately available for Android, via an update of the existing app. In time, the iOS app will also receive an update, but it is still unclear when it will be released. The web version of Google+ is also being updated.
Earlier it was announced that Google is putting the development of its social networking site on the back burner. CEO Vic Gundotra, who was in charge of Google+, left and a large part of the development team was assigned to developing Android.
