There is a documentary in the making about the origin of Lemmings. It should appear at the end of this year, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the game classic. Developers will be discussed in the documentary.

Lemmings, 1991

The documentary will be titled Lemmings 30th: Can You Dig It? and will be about the origin of the game. Lemmings was originally designed by DMA Design of Dundee, Scotland. Various ex-employees of that studio are participating in the documentary. Game journalists, YouTubers and ‘games industry legend’ Peter Molyneux will also have their say. The documentary will appear online.

Licensee Exient is the initiator behind the documentary. That company previously bought the rights from Sony, which in turn had obtained the rights through the acquisition of developer Psygnosis. The game was first released for the Amiga in February 1991 and has since been ported to numerous other platforms. The most recent Lemmings game is a mobile version, which Sony released in 2018 for Android and iOS. That game is now maintained by Exient.
