Netgear has released a new version of ReadyNAS Raidiator, the software that runs on several of the company’s NAS devices. These are the various models equipped with an Intel processor, including the ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition, Pro Pioneer, NVX, NVX Pioneer, 2100, 3100, 3200 and 4200 series. Updating can be done by navigating to the System > Update > Remote tab in Frontview, or by checking the new image yourself first to download. After the update, it is no longer possible to revert to a version before 4.2.5. Below you can find all the changes Netgear has made with this release.

New features

  • Added support for archiving TiVo videos to the ReadyNAS, allowing you to also playback these videos from any TiVo in your home. The option resides in the Streaming Services page in the ReadyDLNA option. Enabling TiVo option there will reveal options to activate archiving from discovered TiVo devices on your network and setting archive schedule. You will need the Media Access Key (MAK) from your TiVo to perform the activation. Any recording marked as “don’t erase” on the TiVo will be archived to the ReadyNAS.
  • Updated to AFP 3.2.
  • Performance tweak.
  • Added high resolution timestamp support over CIFS. This improves the offline file access syncing with Windows.

Bug fixes

  • Added support for 4K sector drives. If you have already installed 4K sector drives with 4.2.11 or earlier, you can replace each disk one by one, allowing it to complete resync, and all your disks will be 4K aligned, and your performance should be on par with similar 512- byte sector drives.
  • Properly handle FTP access to home share snapshots.
  • Fixed several issues with auto power on and power off.
  • Fixed iSCSI disconnect/reconnect issue.
  • Disk expansion alerts with vertical expansion has been cleaned up, especially if you’ve done multiple vertical expansion.
  • Disk test status on LCD should now stick while the testing is done.

Limitations

  • IE 6 no longer supported. Please update to IE 7 or 8.
  • Volume expansion will not work beyond 16TB. To support 16 TB or greater, you’ll have to factory default with that capacity in place.
  • Snapshot resizing has been disabled in the release. We will re-enable this feature in a future update.
  • If you are using Citrix XenServer as an iSCSI initiator with CHAP authentication, you may encounter login problems with this release. XenServer uses one CHAP login for both Discovery and LUN access, which is not directly supported (other initiators allow separate auth for these items). Using the ToggleDiscoveryAuth add-on, the ReadyNAS will use the first LUN’s CHAP information for the Discovery CHAP to resolve this. Related forum post.
