Epic shows first Gears of War 2 images
Developer Epic has revealed the first in-game footage of Gears of War 2. The successor to the successful shooter on the Xbox 360 will be released in November exclusively for the same console.
In the video, which was provided exclusively by Epic to Game trailers, Epic designer Cliff ‘Cliffy B’ Bleszinski explains the setting of the second installment in the series. Once again, the fictional planet Sera is the battleground for human soldiers and the alien race Locust Horde, who have returned with heavier weapons. For example, they are able to sink an entire city into the ground. So again humanity is fighting against extermination. With new weapons and transport, the soldiers also go underground this time, to push the Locust back into their own territory.
The video shows that the gameplay has been deepened compared to Gears of War. For example, you can see how main character Marcus Fenix grabs a Locust and uses it as a shield. The in-game visuals come from the ‘Assault’ level, in which soldiers of the Coalition of Ordered Governments, aka humanity, attack the Locust Horde with the new Derrick trucks. With this, Epic indirectly reveals a part of the story; the original Gears of War was all about the Locust’s overwhelming attack on humanity, while in part two humanity seems to be fighting back more. Furthermore, the characteristic chainsaw returns.
