Dropbox acquires Bubbli photo app developer
Dropbox has acquired another start-up related to photography. This time it concerns the developers of the mobile app Bubbli. The company’s software will be integrated into the cloud storage service.
With Bubbli, iOS users can shoot panoramic photos, with or without sound, and then view them in a 360-degree mode. The images are stored as so-called bubbles. These can also be shared via social networking sites.
Dropbox has announced that it has acquired Bubbli. The acquisition amount has not been disclosed. The Bubbli app will remain in the App Store for now, but Dropbox has announced that the company’s technology will be included in its cloud storage service. It is likely that parts of Bubbli can be found in the Carousel application of Dropbox in due course.
The acquisition of Bubbli shows that Dropbox is increasingly targeting digital photography startups. For example, the company recently acquired Loom, a photo management service that can be seen as a competitor to photo services such as Everpix and Apple’s Photo Stream. Dropbox also got its hands on Snapjoy.
