The number of Disney+ subscribers has increased to 94.9 million, Disney reports in the publication of its quarterly figures. Disney aims to have 230 to 260 million subscribers for its streaming service by 2024.

The counter for Disney+ stood at 94.9 million subscribers on January 2, 2021, so the actual number is now higher. On January 2, Disney ended its fiscal first quarter for 2021, on which the company will publish its results.

Subscriber growth is slowing down compared to quarters three and four of 2020. Initially, Disney reported that it had 73.7 million subscribers in its fourth quarter, but the company later adjusted that to 86.8 million. The Pixar film Soul also appeared on the streaming platform in that quarter.

Average revenue per user fell by 29 percent in the quarter, which prompted Disney to implement a price increase in early February, along with the addition of the Star service. The competing service Netflix reported that it had 203 million subscribers at the end of January.
