Details of Intel Alder Lake laptop processors with big.Little design appear

The alleged lineup of Intel’s upcoming Alder Lake laptop processors has been published. The CPU maker would come up with three Alder Lake segments for laptops, which together account for nineteen different models.

According to the line-up, which by Twitter user HXL has been published, Intel is coming with six different chip series, which are divided into three segments. The CPUs are made at 10nm and use a so-called big.Little configuration. The Alder Lake processors get two different types of cores; the CPUs have a bunch of powerful ‘large’ cores and some energy-efficient ‘small’ cores.

According to the leaked image, the Alder Lake-M series includes several M5 and U9 chips, which are intended for tablets and “ultra-thin” laptops respectively. The M5 chips get a TDP of 5W and one powerful and four economical cores. These chips also each have an integrated Intel Xe GPU with 48 or 64 execution units. The U9 CPUs with 9W TDP are available with up to two powerful cores and eight energy-efficient cores, and also get a Xe GPU, with up to 96 EUs.

The Performance segment consists of U15, U28 and H45 chips and is intended for more powerful laptops. The former series has a configurable TDP of around 15W. Intel comes with an i3 variant with two powerful and four economical cores. The image also shows i5 and i7 variants with two powerful cores and eight energy-efficient cores each. The U28 chips get a TDP of up to 28W and a maximum of six large and eight small cores, just like the H45 series with a TDP of up to 45W. The Alder Lake-P CPUs also get integrated GPUs with up to 96 execution units.

Alder Lake-S will be the highest-ranking laptop segment in Intel’s lineup. These chips have a maximum TDP of 55W. Intel provides the processors with eight large and eight energy-efficient cores. It is striking that the integrated Xe GPUs in this series have a maximum of 32 execution units, making them less powerful than the GPUs from lower-positioned models. Presumably, these Alder Lake-S chips are intended for laptops with a separate GPU.

Alder Lake will be Intel’s twelfth generation Core processors. The company comes with desktop and laptop variants in that series, both of which are made on an improved 10nm process from Intel. The CPU maker revealed the first details of Alder Lake in January during a CES presentation, in which the company already confirmed that the processors would use two different types of cores. There were rumors about this a year ago. Alder Lake is expected in the second half of this year.
