EA has announced EA Sports WRC, a rally game created by Codemasters. The game is the first Codemasters rally game to use the Unreal Engine, making longer rally stages possible. The game still uses the DiRT Rally physics engine.

Thanks to the use of the Unreal Engine, the stages are not only longer, but also more detailed, writes EA. The game will have eighteen official WRC rally stages with more than six hundred kilometers of asphalt, gravel and snow. The game comes with ten current WRC, WRC2 and Junior WRC cars and 68 historic rally cars from the past sixty years. Ford, Toyota and Hyundai, among others, are in the game.

The developer talks about an improved handling model developed with Jon Armstrong, game developer and European rally champion. The game will have pace notes that tell the driver what turn or obstacle is coming up. These notes would have been made easier for new, inexperienced players.

The game also includes the new Builder features. Builder lets players build a modern rally car themselves, where they can choose from the chassis, bodywork and other mechanical parts. Both the inside and outside can be personalized and there is a livery editor. EA Sports WRC supports cross-platform multiplayer with up to 32 players.

EA Sports WRC releases on November 3 for PC via the Epic Store, Steam and the EA App, and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. The game will receive post-launch content and people who pre-order will be able to play the game on October 31st. Codemasters obtained the rights to release official World Rally Championship rally games in 2020. That license starts this year; EA Sports WRC is therefore the first game under this new license. Around the turn of the century, Codemasters already made the Colin McRae Rally games with a WRC license.
