Aspyr Media has released the strategy game Civilization: Beyond Earth for Linux systems. The game previously appeared for Windows and OS X. The Linux version of the game is available via Steam, among others.

To run Civilization: Beyond Earth, SteamOS or Ubuntu 14.04 is required. According to the minimum system requirements, the game needs an Intel Core i3 or an AMD A10 processor in combination with 4GB of RAM. The required storage memory is 8GB and a GeForce 260 video card from Nvidia or a faster card is spoken of for the graphics performance.

Linux is the last platform on which Civilization: Beyond Earth was released. The game has been available for Windows since October 24, and OS X was added to the supported operating systems in November. The strategy game is available to Linux users via Steam and GameAgent. This is currently possible with a discount, but that will expire on Saturday night. The Exoplanets Map Pack must still be purchased separately and that pack consists of six maps based on existing exoplanets.

The strategy game is the successor to Civilization V and the game is set on another planet. Where in the past people usually built on earlier earthly eras, Beyond Earth has a more futuristic theme. On the planet, humanity has to build a new existence, but that is not without a struggle.
