Chrome does not load some Flash objects for longer laptop battery life

Google wants to give Chrome users a longer battery life by being more economical with Flash content. Flash objects that are not important to the functioning of a page, for example in advertisements, are not loaded by default.

Google says it has worked with Adobe to implement the functionality. Content that is important for a web page, such as a video player, is loaded, but a Flash banner, for example, is not. A user must then click on the paused Flash content to play it again. According to Google, the measures are mainly intended to achieve a longer battery life on laptops.

The functionality has already been rolled out to Chrome’s beta channel, but will be coming to all users “soon” with a release in the stable channel. As far as we know, the functionality is not opt-in, and is enabled by default. However, Google does say that users may have to enable the functionality themselves.
