David Vonderhaar announces his departure from Treyarch and Activision after almost 19 years. Vonderhaar has been involved in eight Call of Duty games in recent years, including the Black Ops series and the battle royale games Blackout and Warzone.

Vonderhaar joined the Santa Monica-based studio in 2004 and until recently led the design team for the Call of Duty games within Treyarch. Vonderhaar shares on LinkedIn that he will continue to work in the gaming industry, although it concerns a ‘secret project’ that he cannot yet discuss. Also Treyarch reflects on his departure on social media and says Vonderhaar’s “iconic phrases and groundbreaking ideas will be missed.”

Earlier this month, Activision announced the arrival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, releasing on November 10. This is the first time that two Modern Warfare games have been released one after the other. Normally, the different sub-franchises of CoD alternate. The first images of MWIII show that the campaign continues where 2022’s Modern Warfare II ended, with the return of antagonist Vladimir Makarov.
