British police arrest suspect after Xbox and PlayStation networks Ddos
British police have arrested a 22-year-old man who is believed to be behind the extensive Ddos on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network last week. The man is said to be part of the Lizard Squad, which carries out DDoS attacks for a fee. More members may have been arrested.
The 22-year-old suspect was officially arrested on Wednesday evening for identity theft and infringement of the British Computer Misuse Act. The arrest is part of an investigation into internet fraud committed between 2013 and August 2014, in which money was stolen from PayPal accounts. “They took everything, Xbox One, phones, laptops, USB sticks,” the man told Daily Dot.
According to security researcher Brian Krebs, it is one of the members of the Lizard Squad, the group that claimed numerous DDOs attacks, including those on the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network gaming networks from last week. The group also allegedly tried to compromise the integrity of the Tor network by setting up thousands of relays.
The arrest follows the introduction of the Lizardstresser service by the Lizard Squad. Allows users to perform DDoS attacks for a fee. The service is offline at the time of writing and via Twitter the Lizard Squad itself claims that in addition to the arrested Briton, two are members arrested. These arrests have not yet been confirmed.
