Android users of BBM in the United States and Canada can make video calls with the latest messaging service update. The beta service is initially only available to Android users but is coming to iOS soon. The rest of the world will have to wait until July.

When the iOS application is released, it should also be possible to make video calls between both platforms. BlackBerry expects the video calling expansion to be available worldwide in July.

BlackBerry warns users in the US and Canada that the service may not be available to everyone at first because it is their first time releasing BBM Video to the public. The first beta users also have to take into account less good performance and certain functions do not yet work completely smoothly.

No separate account is required to use the video feature. If a BBM user and another person with a BBM app clicks to connect, the app will indicate that both features, voice and video, are available if the other also has the beta.

The minimum system requirements are: Android 4.4 or iOS 8.
