ASRock Showcases Tiny Mini Stx PC With Removable Desktop CPU
ASRock has shown its first system based on the Mini Socket Technology Extended form factor. The manufacturer puts the name DeskMini on the small PC and provides the system with, among other things, a Core i3-6100.
ASRock designed the DeskMini in collaboration with Intel. Intel announced the motherboard form factor for Mini Socket Technology Extended, or mini-stx, last year under the name “5×5.” In terms of surface area, the form factor is 29 percent smaller than mini-itx and almost twice the size of nuc.
In combination with a Core i3-6100, the DeskMini is already faster than existing systems with a Core i7-6500U, with the manufacturer showing Cinebench R15 results to substantiate this claim. Many manufacturers equip small desktops with non-removable mobile processors. The mini-stx form factor should combine compact size with more powerful swappable desktop CPUs.
The DeskMini’s capacity is 1.92 liters, but there is still room for the standard Intel processor cooler and two 2.5″ storage drives. ASRock does not disclose more details about the product, but it did in January, when it was still a concept with the name H110M.The prices and release date are not yet known.
