Apple is making the so-called Emergency SOS function for the iPhone 14 phones available in a series of new countries and the function will also be released in the Benelux later this month. This service allows users to contact emergency services even if there is no coverage or WiFi.

In a announcement in which Apple presents a yellow version of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, reports the company that the SOS emergency notification function is currently available in Canada, Germany, France, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States and that the Benelux, Italy, Austria and Portugal will be added ‘later this month’.

The service can be used free of charge for the first two years after activating a new iPhone 14 phone. The SOS function allows users in the mentioned countries to send messages to emergency services via satellite communication. This way they can also reach emergency numbers if there is no WiFi connection or mobile coverage available. The service also lets users share their location with contacts via the Find My app.
