Apple removes Launch app for ‘misuse of widget options’
Apple has removed an application from the App Store that allows users to create their own shortcuts in the notification center. According to Apple, the app misused the widget functionality.
It is unknown what exactly prompted Apple to remove the app, but the developer says he has made a fix in which the launcher did not open apps directly, but first led users to its own Launcher app and only then activated the shortcut . Apple rejected this solution and removed the app.
iOS 8 will allow apps to communicate with each other for the first time, but the developer says Apple hasn’t made any explicit rules for that, so he has no idea how he broke the rules. There are people in the comments at Apple fan site 9to5 Mac who say that users noticed that the app was sending data to the developer.
The developer states that he can still extend the functionality of the app with new shortcuts, because they come via his own server: it does seem that the app has an online component, because the developer only uses the code of the app itself. may change with an update in the App Store.
