Apple is marketing special cases for the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR that have a thickening on the back that houses an extra battery. The Smart Battery Cases cost 149 euros.

The Smart Battery Case is in Apple’s store and costs 149 for both the iPhone XS, XS Max and the XR. As far as the material is concerned, the covers are made of microfibre on the inside and silicone on the outside. The cases are compatible with certified Qi chargers, making both the iPhone and the case wirelessly rechargeable.

According to Apple, users who charge their iPhone XS and the case at the same time can call for a total of 33 hours, surf the web for 21 hours and play video for 25 hours. An iPhone placed in the case shows the battery status on the lock screen and in Notification Center.

It is not the first time that Apple has released such a smartphone case for its iPhones; the company first did so in late 2015 for the iPhone 6 models. The bulge of the current cases for the latest devices is a bit more subtle than the more noticeable bulge of these cases for the iPhone 6. Under the cutout is the battery, which now extends to both the sides and the bottom.

At the beginning of December, an image appeared showing the new Smart Battery Case, although it was not yet entirely clear whether the case was actually intended for the three new iPhone models. Apple has made the new cases available in a white or heavy color. The price is 149 euros.
