Apple has sold its 3 billionth iPhone
Apple is preparing to launch its new iPhone, the iPhone 17. It is expected in about six weeks because Apple usually uses the second Tuesday of September to announce its latest line-up. But just before the Apple Event, there is a small bright spot to celebrate: Apple shipped its 3 billionth iPhone this week.
3 billion iPhones
Three billion devices—that’s not little. Competitor Samsung reached this milestone last year; at least, it will calculate from 2014. The iPhone dates back to 2007. Apple needed a little longer, but it should not spoil the fun: iPhone is still one of the most popular smartphones in the world. Indeed, in a country like America, Apple is regularly at the top regarding smartphone market share.
Conscious choice
It is hoped that the release of the iPhone 17 will soon include those new gadgets promised on the iPhone 16. Apart from these small worries, 3 billion is an impressive number for several reasons. Apple reached 1 billion in 2016 and 2 billion in 2021, growing by one billion within four years.
This is especially impressive when you consider that iPhones from recent years usually last longer than those from ten years ago. So people keep opting for iPhones very consciously, probably also because theirs can still be an excellent round (often given to family members for a second life). But yes, if those people get a device, they don’t buy it. In short, 3 billion in 4 years can be called impressive.
We know, among other things, that the iPhone 17 AIR model will be extra thin, that the phone is equipped with the A19 chip, and that the selfie camera is being improved: it will be 24 megapixels, which is twice as much as on the iPhone 16. In addition, the camera island will be slightly different in design. Read more in our article about what we can expect from the iPhone 17.
