Apple would be working on four to six products with mini LED screens over the next two to three years. That’s what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims. An iPad Pro and a MacBook Pro that feature this display technology are expected to be released in the course of next year.

It would be a high-end 12.9″ iPad Pro with an A14x chip that will be released in the third quarter of next year, Kuo claims, according to Macrumors. In addition, Apple would come in the fourth quarter of 2020 with a revamped 16″ tablet. MacBook Pro, which would also have a screen based on mini LEDs. Kuo reports that the mini-LED screens will “significantly increase productivity and the entertainment experience,” although he will not go into detail about this, MacRumors writes. The analyst is known for his information about unannounced Apple products.

At the end of September, the analyst already wrote about new Apple products based on mini LEDs, predicting the release of the iPad and MacBook for the period between the end of 2020 and the middle of 2021. Then he wrote that these products are screens with approximately individual 10,000 leds. In comparison, Apple’s current Pro Display XDR has a screen with 576 LEDs.

Screens based on mini LEDs can consist of many thousands of individual LEDs. Unlike microLEDs or OLEDs, miniLEDs do not form the pixels and are not self-emitting LEDs, millions of which are built into each screen; the mini LEDs act as a backlight. Due to their small size, relatively many can be used, which in theory can lead to LCDs with a high-quality fald, many dimming zones and good contrast. Several manufacturers are using this display technology for new products, including TCL. This company is going to release a television with 20,000 mini LEDs.
