AMD to release Ryzen 3000 refresh based on Zen 2 in July

AMD will reportedly be releasing new Ryzen CPUs based on the Zen 2 architecture soon. These would be the Ryzen 9 3900XT, Ryzen 7 3800XT and Ryzen 5 3600XT. The company is said to be planning to officially announce the chips on June 16, after which they will go on sale on July 7.

The current Ryzen 3000 desktop processors, which are internally called Matisse at AMD, are based on a 7nm process from TSMC. Those CPUs came out in July 2019. Earlier there were rumors that AMD would soon come with a refresh of its Ryzen 3000 CPUs. This information came from Twitter user HXL, who wrote about an alleged Ryzen 7 3750X and 3850X. In the meantime, Wccftech has gathered other information, which shows that the Matisse refresh will probably get a different line-up.

According to Wccftech, AMD would come with new Ryzen 9, Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 CPUs, which have 12, 8, and 6 cores with simultaneous multithreading respectively. The CPUs will probably still use the Zen 2 architecture at 7nm. The CPUs will probably get a higher clock speed than the current Ryzen 3000 CPUs, while the suggested retail price would remain the same. Wccftech also states that current Ryzen 3000 CPUs are getting cheaper. AMD lowered the suggested retail price of its 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X CPU to $410 earlier this week, presumably in response to the Intel Core i9-10900K. The 3900X is in the Pricewatch for € 447.

The arrival of the new chips has not yet been confirmed by AMD, although a leaked slide from Gigabyte suggests that the company is indeed coming with a Ryzen 3000 refresh. In a B550 presentation of that company, ‘Matisse & Refresh’ CPUs are mentioned, just like Renoir and Vermeer. The latter will be AMD’s next-generation Zen 3 processors, expected to be announced in September. Renoir, in turn, is a series of Zen 2 desktop APUs.
