AMD has announced three workstation graphics cards that use the new Polaris architecture. The manufacturer releases the WX 7100, 5100 and 4100 with the name Radeon Pro, which seems to replace the FirePro name.

The first three video cards with Polaris GPU for workstations are less powerful than the RX 480. For example, the WX 7100 has a total of 2048 stream processors, while the RX 480 has 2304. That means the Polaris 10 GPU is not fully activated on the card. The WX 5100 also has a Polaris 10-gpu, but fewer stream processors. The WX 4100 is based on Polaris 11, as is the upcoming RX 460 video card for gamers.

There are four displayport connections on the WX video cards. The WX 4100 is the mini-displayport variant, because it is a half-height card for small housings. AMD gives companies extra support and warranty on the Radeon Pro video cards. According to the manufacturer, the WX 7100 is suitable for developers involved in VR applications.

Previously, AMD housed its video cards for workstations in the FirePro series. The new cards will have the Radeon Pro designation. As far as numbering and positioning are concerned, there are similarities with the current maps. For example, the WX 7100 is the successor to the W7100. The WX 5100 and 4100 succeed the FirePro W models with those numbers. The cards will be released on the market in the fourth quarter of 2016. List prices are not yet known, but AMD has indicated that the WX 7100 will cost less than a thousand dollars.
