Amazon presents algorithm for AWS that detects manufacturing defects

Amazon has added a feature to AWS that allows manufacturers to detect defects in products through an algorithm. After training on correct images, the software detects whether there are deviations.

For example, customers can check whether a housing has scratches, whether there is a color difference and whether components are missing on a pcb, Amazon says. The use of the algorithm should reduce reliance on human inspection for products. As a result, producers should be able to check products on a larger scale faster. It is a paid service.

After training, the service gives a reliability score to images on a set of images of products without defects, after which customers can see which ones they are in a dashboard. The service is immediately available to customers, including in the European Union.
