Amazon Kindle e-readers will get support for EPUB files by the end of 2022

By the end of this year, it will be possible to put EPUB files on Amazon Kindle e-readers. This works via the ‘Personal Document Service’, which allows users to send files to their e-reader via email or an app.

Kindle users will be able to upload EPUB files to their eReader themselves from the end of 2022, reports Amazon. This is possible with the function to email files to the e-reader or with a Send to Kindle app. According to Good E-reader doesn’t seem to be native support for the EPUB format. According to the site, Amazon converts the files to its proprietary KF8 format, also known as AZW3.

Now users have to convert their EPUB files to a compatible format themselves before it can be put on a Kindle. So Amazon will take that step off your hands, but it doesn’t look like Amazon will publish books in the EPUB format.

Amazon is phasing out its own MOBI format at the end of this year because it doesn’t support “the latest Kindle features.” This will not affect files already on e-readers, but sending MOBI and AZW files via Send to Kindle will be disabled.
