‘AM5 platform does not boot OS with DDR5 memory dimms of 24 and 48GB’ – update

It seems that the AM5 platform is not yet ready for the DDR5 memory modules with capacities of 24 and 48GB. A user shows that he was able to enter the BIOS with an ASUS ROG Strix B650-E motherboard, but the system did not boot any further.

MEGAsizeGPU’s Twitter account shows that its ROG Strix B650-E motherboard in combination with a Ryzen 5 7600X processor with two individual dimms of 24GB (Corsair Vengeance DDR5-5600 48GB) cannot boot normally to the operating system; it can’t get past the Boot Manager and gets an error message. According to this user, AMD and motherboard manufacturers should release a new BIOS version to fix this. It is visible that the BIOS is normally accessible, recognizes both modules and provides correct information about the speed and total memory capacity.

In the past month, memory manufacturers such as Corsair have begun introducing and releasing DDR5 memory kits with individual dimms of 24 and 48GB, allowing capacities up to 192GB. Manufacturers such as MSI and Gigabyte have already announced that their Intel 700 and 600 motherboards specifically are ready for the DDR5 modules, but they made no such announcements for AMD platforms.

Technically, AMD’s Ryzen 7000 processors have a memory limit of 128GB, which until a while ago also applied to the twelfth and thirteenth generation Intel Core CPUs. Now that these Intel processors can support up to 196GB, this may also become possible with AMD.

Update 9-3: Suggests in a tweet chi11eddog, who previously released correct information about future MSI motherboards, that AMD is working to add support for 24GB modules with the future AGESA version 1.0.0.7. Currently 1.0.0.6 is the latest AGESA.
