‘Huawei Mate 20 X 5G will be released in three countries this month’ – update
Huawei’s first 5G smartphone, the Mate 20 X 5G, is expected to hit the market in three countries before the end of the month. It concerns homeland China, Italy and the United Arab Emirates. In the latter country, sales have already started on 12 July.
According to the Chinese state newspaper Global Times, the Mate 20 X 5G will be in Chinese stores from July 26. Venturebeat discovered on the Italian Amazon site that the device will be released in Italy on July 22, and further reports that residents of the United Arab Emirates can purchase the smartphone since Friday, July 12, via operator Etisalat.
The Mate 20 X 5G is very similar to the Mate 20 X on the outside, a larger version of the Mate 20 that is not officially released in the Benelux. This device also has a 7.2″ OLED screen with a resolution of 2244×1080 pixels and dimensions of 174.6×85.4 mm. There is also a teardrop-shaped notch, and three cameras of 40, 20 and 8 megapixels. Internally, however, various components received an update. There is the Balong 5000 modem for 5g, the working memory increased from 6GB to 8GB and the storage capacity is not 128GB but 256GB.The capacity of the battery drops remarkably enough, from 5000mAh to 4200mAh.
Initially, the foldable Mate X should have been the first available 5G device from Huawei, but the introduction of that smartphone has been postponed to September at the last minute. This is the first for the Mate 20 X 5G, although the number of countries where this device appears is more limited than planned. Vodafone, for example, originally wanted to release the smartphone in the UK. Due to the accusations of espionage against Huawei, for which no proof has yet been provided, and the risk that the devices would no longer receive Android updates, Vodafone UK decided to refrain from the introduction for the time being.
On the Italian Amazon site, the Mate 20 X 5G is sold for 1099 euros.
Update, 5:48 PM: Huawei has announced that the Mate 20 X 5G will also be released in the United Kingdom this month. The device would also be on the market very soon in Germany and Switzerland.
