Lite-On has released a new firmware for their internal DVD rewriter, the SOHW-812S(x)† The zip file contains only one file that can be run under Windows, so you don’t have to bother with a DOS boot flop. This technique makes it possible to turn a DVD+R(W) disc into a DVD-ROM disc so that it can be read by more players. To convert the DVDs, a BookType Utility is required and this can here to be found.

Most DVD players that can’t read DVD+RW or DVD+R discs are the older models. This version firmware allows users to modify the BookType setting of a DVD recordable media, thus enhancing the media read compatibility in older DVD playback devices.
