Ubisoft is making a Star Wars game for Lucasfilm Games. It is an open world game being developed by Massive Entertainment, the studio behind Tom Clancy’s The Division.

It is the first time since 2012 that a studio other than EA is working on a Star Wars game. The arrival of the Ubisoft game has been announced to Wired. Disney, which owns the rights to the Star Wars franchise, says EA will continue to make games, but will also be working with other studios and publishers from now on.

Massive Entertainment makes the game and it is an open world game. The studio was also responsible for Tom Clancy’s The Division and The Division 2 and thus has experience with those types of games. Julian Gerighty, the director of The Division 2 and The Crew, takes on the role of creative director. The game will use Massive’s Snowdrop engine. It has been around since 2013 and has also been used for The Division games. Further details about the new Star Wars game have not yet been revealed. Massive still has vacancies open for further development, which is still in an early phase.

Disney announced Monday that Lucasfilm Games is being revived. It seems to be mainly about the name and the management of the rights. There is collaboration with other publishers and studios for the actual making of games. On Tuesday, the news also came out that Bethesda is working on an Indiana Jones game in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.
