World of Warcraft will probably get two new playable races sometime next year. These are the Vulpera, best described as fox people, and the Mechagnomes. The latter is a new breed of robotic gnomes.

The arrival of the new races is part of update 8.3 for World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, the release date of which is still unknown. This update called Visions of N’zoth will be available on the beta servers on Tuesday. The Vulpera will be available to the Horde, while the Mechagnomes will only be available to members of the Alliance. Both races were previously in the game, but were not playable at the time.

Both the Vulpera and the Mechagnomes are so-called Allied Races, which means that players can only start a character of this race when they have the highest positive reputation with the respective faction. In addition, a special quest may need to be completed first. Previously released Allied Races include the Dark Iron Dwarves, Mag’har Orcs, Zandalari Trolls and Kul Tiran Humans.

In Visions of N’zoth, players enter the Eldritch dimension to face the dark ancient god N’zoth, who was freed during the events of Update 8.2. A key feature of 8.3 are Assaults in two areas: Uldum and the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. N’zoth’s forces flood these areas, prompting temporary quests and other rewards to appear.

In addition, there is content for players without teammates: Horrific Visions, although this can also be played with a small group of friends. This revolves around a potential future where N’zoth has won the battle and transformed the cities of Stormwind and Ogrimmar. To help the player survive in these visions, a new legendary cape is available. According to Blizzard, this cape provides a form of defense or shield against N’zoth’s attacks on the mental state of the players’ characters. By protecting the cape and upgrading it, players can delve deeper and deeper into the visions to discover more and more about the mysteries surrounding N’zoth’s powers.

Finally, a new dungeon for World of Warcraft Classic, called Dire Maul, will be released next week. Located in the Feralas area, this dungeon is an ancient ruined city of the Night Elves.
