WhatsApp releases a feature to use two accounts on one device

Meta will be rolling out a feature between now and in a few weeks that will make it possible to switch between two WhatsApp accounts via the mobile app. The social media platform announced this in a blog post.

This function makes it possible to switch between two WhatsApp accounts via a menu, the company writes in its blog post. For example, users no longer have to log in and out to switch between their work and personal accounts, or use two phones. The privacy and notification settings can be chosen separately for both accounts. For example, it is possible to receive notifications for the private account, but not for the work account.

To use this feature, users need a second phone number and SIM card, or a phone with MultiSIM or e-SIM support. In the WhatsApp settings there should be an arrow next to the account name and QR code. If users click on it, they can add an account. Once it has been added, it is possible to switch accounts with the same arrow. According to the blog post, the feature should become available immediately on Thursday, although The Verge based on a Meta spokesperson writes that the feature will be rolled out “in the coming weeks.” The multi-account feature was previously discovered in the WhatsApp Business beta app.
