Meta Glasses
While Meta Glasses usually give you an advantage on Instagram, namely that your content is displayed sooner and it is actually stated that it was made with the glasses, it can have the opposite effect if it becomes clear that you are sending people onto the internet without permission. There are a lot of creeps who mainly film women and who, for example, are insulting, make fun of people or supposedly make a point about several people that is completely incorrect. Meta says: “If you post content that exploits or intimidates people, such as many of those videos with pick-up tricks that we hear about and see, then we remove that content. We don’t want people to secretly make videos of others, harass them and then post it on our platform.” It is wise that Meta takes a hard line against this, because it makes a product that completely failed 10 years ago when Google made it because people were afraid that someone might film them.
Glasses for creeps
The Meta Glasses do not want to be labeled as glasses for perverse, vulgar or otherwise creepy people. At the same time, it’s difficult to really get a handle on how many of these types of videos are being created and posted. Sometimes they go unnoticed, partly because the victim does not even know that it is online. It is unclear exactly how to combat these videos: action may only be taken if someone flags a post. Furthermore, a major battle is being fought around the red indicator LED on the glasses. Meta does everything she can to ensure that people cannot cover that light or switch it off, so that it is always clear that someone is filming. People have therefore already tried to jailbreak the gadget. Things like this make it even more important that videos on Instagram from people who clearly disagree are reported to Meta so that the appropriate steps can be taken.
