Western Digital announced on Monday that hackers had broken into its network. According to the company, ‘certain data’ was stolen. The company’s My Cloud cloud storage service is currently unusable.

Western Digital writes in a press release that it noticed a “network security incident” on Sunday, March 26. In doing so, unauthorized persons would have gained access to a number of company systems. WD says it has taken “measures” to resolve the incident, with the help of forensic and security experts. The company also says it is cooperating with law enforcement agencies.

Western Digital also reports that ‘certain data’ was probably stolen in the hack. However, the company does not say what kind of data that is. It is investigating the nature and extent of the stolen data. The investigation into the incident is at an early stage, according to WD. WD will release updates later.

The storage manufacturer says it is taking “proactive security measures,” including taking certain systems and services offline. The company will not go into further detail about this. On Western Digital’s status page however, shows that the company’s My Cloud service is currently down. This service allows users to view the files on their My Cloud nas via the internet. WD says it is “actively working” on restoring its infrastructure and services. It is not known when the services are expected to come back online.
