WD has added a 5TB model to its My Passport line of portable hard drives. The discs are a bit thinner than the previous generation. In addition, WD is announcing new Sandisk memory cards, including a CFexpress 2.0 model.

WD’s new My Passport HDDs measure 107.2x75x11.15mm. This makes them more compact than the previous generation, which had dimensions of 110×81.5×21.5mm. What’s new is that in addition to 1TB, 2TB and 4TB models, 5TB HDDs will also be available. The prices are respectively 67, 95 and 145 euros, while the 5TB drive has to pay 180 euros. The discs are available in black, blue and red and there is also a dark blue version for the Mac. The 5TB version of that series costs 190 euros. The drives are equipped with a USB 3.2 gen 1 interface.

WD is also announcing new products from its subsidiary brand Sandisk. For example, there is the Extreme PRO CFexpress Type B memory card. As the name indicates, it is a memory card based on the CFexpress 2.0 specification announced at the beginning of this year and on a type b card. Type b cards have two pci-e 3.0 lanes and like all CFexpress cards, the Sandisk cards support the nvme 1.3 protocol. Sandisk cards offer maximum read speeds of 1700MB/s and maximum write speeds of 1400MB/s, exceeding the theoretical maximums of CFexpress 2.0 type b of 2000MB/s. The card comes with a maximum storage capacity of 512GB on the market. That product has a suggested retail price of 600 dollars, converted and with VAT that is 660 euros.

Finally, a 1TB Extreme PRO UHS-I SD card from Sandisk will appear, in addition to the 1TB microSD card from early this year. The reading speed is up to 170MB/s and writing is up to 90MB/s. The 1TB card will be released in the fall and has a suggested retail price of USD 500 in the US, converted and EUR 549 with VAT.
