Microsoft has posted a vacancy online in which the company is looking for a programmer for a new iot operating system. That is based on Windows 10X, the OS on which the new Surface Neo device runs.

The vacancy, which was spotted by Windows Latest, states that the company is looking for a programmer for the Windows 10X operating system. “You build a next generation iot operating system based on Windows 10X,” the vacancy reads. Windows 10X is the version of the existing operating system that Windows intends to use for the upcoming Surface phones with a dual screen. Microsoft unveiled the Surface Neo in early October along with the new operating system. The OS is suitable for dual-screen devices and will at least get a modern Explorer, although not much more is known about it than that.

The vacancy indicates that Windows 10X may also be used for IoT devices in the future. This may be one of the components of Windows Core OS, a project in which Windows is built up from different layers so that it is suitable for different devices.

Microsoft previously had an operating system for the Internet of Things. Windows 10 IoT was an OS suitable for home automation devices like the Raspberry Pi. However, that project hasn’t received any major updates in over a year. Microsoft hasn’t talked about it in a long time either.
