Twitter stops LinkedIn sync
Twitter is ending its partnership with LinkedIn and will no longer allow tweets to automatically appear on the business networking site. Conversely, users of both services can still synchronize updates.
The partnership agreement between Twitter and LinkedIn, concluded in 2009, allowed users to synchronize messages sent through their accounts. Tweets were therefore automatically published via LinkedIn and updates on LinkedIn could appear via Twitter. However, Twitter has started to stricter the terms of use of its api and as a result the synchronization is unilaterally terminated.
Twitter wants to focus more on “providing a core Twitter consumption experience through a consistent set of products and tools.” writes Michael Sippey of Twitter. Twitter previously said that developers should not use the api to reproduce or mimic Twitter functionality and the tightening would be related to this. Otherwise, nothing changes. LinkedIn users retain the option to automatically publish messages posted on the business networking site as tweets, LinkedIn’s Ryan Roslansky said. Compared to Facebook, the guidelines for the use of the api have apparently not yet been tightened, TechCrunch notes, because the option to post to Facebook from Twitter remains available.
