Twitter allows verified status requests for any user

Twitter is going to make a form available with which all users can request a verified status. Although Twitter indicates that the blue checks are for “public interest” accounts, the social medium may start verifying more accounts.

Twitter announces opening of the application form in a blog post and the form will be available soon at verification.twitter.com. By this week, all Twitter users should be able to access the form via the URL. On the support page, the social network gives more explanation about the requirements for requesting account verification. Users must submit, among other things, a telephone number, e-mail address and photo.

Verified accounts on Twitter are identified by a blue checkmark. Visitors to the social network can see whether a person or organization is actually authentic. The status is only given to people or organizations of public interest. This concerns, for example, politicians or celebrities.

Twitter reports in both its blog post and explainer page that the verified status is for people in the public eye. However, making it easier to submit an application seems to indicate that the service will become less strict in handing out the blue check marks.
