Twitch will allow users to upload videos starting next year
Twitch has announced new functionality for its video streaming service for games. This makes it possible to upload recorded videos, with which the service probably wants to compete with YouTube. In addition, new apps are released.
The new functionality was announced worldwide made at an event hosted by Twitch itself, called TwitchCon. The company wants to broaden its services by offering recorded video images in addition to streaming. For example, broadcasters can choose to show an uploaded video at times when no live stream is available. Users can choose to put videos in a playlist. With the new features, Twitch will compete with YouTube; the latter also recently launched a video streaming service for gamers.
It has also become known that the previously announced switch from Flash to HTML5 will take place in the second quarter of 2016. This should ensure that the video player demands less from the hardware. The Whisper communication program will also receive updates, which will show pop-ups of incoming messages, among other things. PlayStation users will soon have access to a new app with more functionality; it is compatible with the PlayStation 3, 4, Vita and TV.
Most of the announced novelties will therefore not come to Twitch users until next year. However, the company will soon start a beta program to test the functionality for video uploads, where interested parties can request access.
