Torrent site Extratorrent is shutting down

The popular torrent site ExtraTorrent has closed its doors. According to the administrators, this is a permanent closure and all files have been deleted. They have not yet given a reason for the sudden closure.

The torrent site page states that ExtraTorrent has been permanently stopped and that all mirrors are going offline. “We have permanently erased all data,” it continued. The administrators warn to stay away from fake sites posing as ExtraTorrent.

Torrentfreak contacted the administrator who confirmed the shutdown, without giving details of the reason. The release group ETRG, which is affiliated with the site, is also throwing in the towel. With the disappearance of ExtraTorrent, another popular torrent site has disappeared from the Internet: previously What.cd, KickassTorrents and Torrentz.eu preceded the site.
