The Last of Us Part II and Hades receive the most nominations at Game Awards
The Last of Us Part II has received ten nominations in nine categories from the Game Awards. That game has thus won the most nominations this year. Indie game Hades gets eight nominations and Ghost of Tsushima has seven.
The Last of Us Part II is nominated for Game of the Year and best game and art direction . The game also has a chance to win prizes for its narrative , soundtrack and audio design. Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey also receive nominations for their performances as Ellie and Abby in the game.
Indie game Hades is also doing well among the nominations; that roguelike game is nominated for eight different categories. The title is being considered for Game of the Year, among other things, but also receives nominations for best game direction, soundtrack, indie game and action game. Hades came out for PC and Nintendo Switch in September. The game has been critically acclaimed and currently has a Metacritics score of 93 .
Ghost of Tsushima and the Final Fantasy VII Remake receive seven and six nominations respectively, including for their narrative and game direction. Both games also have a chance to win the Game of the Year title, just like Doom Eternal. That game is also considered for best action game and best soundtrack. Predecessor Doom (2016) won the latter category a few years ago.
Nintendo takes three nominations with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, including a nomination for Game of the Year and best multiplayer game. New Horizons is one of the best-selling Switch games to date, with over 26 million units currently shipped . Only Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a game released in April 2017, has more copies shipped for the Switch at the time of writing.
Just like last year, Fortnite will receive three nominations, including for best esports game. That category also includes games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valorant and League of Legends. Half-Life: Alyx and Fall Guys also receive four nominations. Among Us, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Apex Legends are each nominated in two categories.
The nominations have been chosen by an international jury that includes participants from various media publications. The winners are chosen by the same jury and the public, who can vote for games from the different categories. The votes of the public count for ten percent.
The Game Awards will be presented on Thursday December 10th. The winners will be announced during a show, which will be held completely digitally this year. New games are regularly announced during the Game Awards. For example, last year the release period of Ghost of Tsushima was announced. Godfall was also shown for the first time at the Game Awards.
