The Internet Archive makes old arcade games playable in browser

Known for archiving web pages, The Internet Archive has revived many old arcade games. More than 900 games have been made available, all of which can be played from within the web browser.

An overview of the available games can be found on a specially set up The Internet Arcade page. The webpage features hundreds of arcade games from makers such as Capcom, Atari, and Sega. Everything is playable from the browser and works with keyboard. However, there are still bugs in some games and in many cases users have to figure out for themselves which keys to use for the controls.

The collection of games has been transformed into a browser version by using Javascript Mess, a port of the Mess emulator capable of emulating many different old computer and console systems. Javascript Mess therefore makes it possible to do emulation in the browser, without the need for a plugin.

The Internet Archive is best known for its web archiving ventures. The site contains 435 billion saved web pages, making it possible to look back in time. Video and audio material is also stored.
