Tencent has closed Team Kaiju, reports Reuters news agency. This American game studio was working on a triple-A multiplayer game. Developer Scott Warner, among other things the design director of Halo 4, headed the studio.

Eurogamer was the first to notice that Team Kaiju seemed to be closed. For example, the game studio’s website has recently been offline. Team Kaiju’s LinkedIn page is also no longer available. Tencent never publicly announced the closure of Team Kaiju.

However, the Chinese tech giant closed the studio in June of this year an anonymous source told Reuters. Team Kaiju employees were then transferred to work on another Tencent game. Scott Warner has already left the studio in April 2023, according to his LinkedIn profile. Tencent declined to respond to questions from Reuters.

Team Kaiju was working on a triple-A multiplayer game. The studio was founded by Scott Warner, who has worked at EA, Oculus and Ubisoft, along with Battlefield veteran Rositza Zagorcheva. No concrete details were known about the game Team Kaiju was working on, other than the project had a large budget.

Tencent has been expanding in the West for years. In addition to setting up its own studios, including Team Kaiju, it has also invested in the likes of Epic Games, Ubisoft, Supercell, Paradox Interactive and more. The company also wants to acquire Dying Light maker Techland.
